The Facts: A Dolphin's Fate in Taiji Harbor
Dolphins fishers create a wall of sound that is alarming to dolphins and drives them into Taiji harbor. Once lured in, the dolphins have one of two destinies, sold for captivity or killed.

The dolphins who are sold...
Below is a video from 2011 of Tiaji's own Whale Museum. This is one of the tanks where dolphins are held. It is noted that the dolphins are unsettled and do not even open their eyes. |

Logos and it's Effect on the Argument:
The main claim the activists in The Cove make is that the cruel and unnecessary events taking place in Taiji need to be brought to the public's attention. The numbers just don't add up. Separate from the dolphins that were purchased from captivity, more than 20,000 dolphins were killed in Taiji harbor. Considering the Japanese people claim that they don't consume dolphin meat and their meat is much too toxic to consume in the first place, there is no justification for the mass killings. Proof of the detrimental effects of dolphin captivity paired with the unexplained claims made by Taiji regarding the need of such extreme amounts of slaughter work to show the audience the unwarranted actions occurring in Taiji.
